In response to many members who have asked us about online advertising on the High Country Host site, we are now offering banner ads on our web site: www.mountainsofnc.com. This opportunity is exclusive to High Country Host members and all proceeds from the sale of banners will go to marketing research so that we can be sure we are getting the most out of our advertising efforts.
The High Country Host web site is promoted on all of our ads, brochures, our Vacation Planner and through online advertising on the state's web site: visitnc.com. We are also considering several other online campaigns to promote the Host's web site because we recognize that the internet is the number one source people now use to plan travel!

We will be offering the ads in six month increments--to coincide with our seasons. You may buy an ad from April-October or November-March. Best of all, if you can't design the ad, we'll design it for you for a one time fee! |
What is a Rotating Banner Ad?
This is best explained by example--A page has 3 banner ad slots but 6 businesses that want a banner there so we set up the page to rotate the banners each time the page is brought up. One time you may view the page and see banners A,B,C and the next time it may be D,E,F, etc. People sometimes think we are referring to an animated ad when we say rotating ad--an animated ad is when your ad either moves or flashes up different images or words.
What are Visits? What are Page Views? What are Hits?
Visits are the number of user sessions that happen each month. Page views are average number of web pages that a visitor views when on the site. Hits basically mean nothing. A hit is recorded every time information is pulled from the server--every time a photo is downloaded (and sometimes pages have 20 photos per page), a hit is recorded, so it's not as indicative of visitation as to the number of user sessions that you have.
Can I buy just one month out of the year?
We are going to only offer the ads for a six month period because of the volume of work that is involved with changing the ads and keeping up with who goes where. We have structured the six month period so that it coincides with our season--April-October and November-March.
What is a .gif? What are pixels?
A .gif is a type of file that is created for the web. Pixels are the tiny "dots" that make up a photo or image and is the unit of measurement for web design (more dots or pixels per inch means a higher resolution, sharper, clearer picture--but the web needs lower resolution images). We require that if you are not using our services to create an ad, you find someone qualified to do so. It is very important that your ad represent you well!

Includes ad on front page of the mountainsofnc.com web site (right side) that will rotate with other ads plus an additional rotating ad on one category page of your choice (ie accommodations, attractions, etc.--see below). We will allow a limited number of these packages--first come, first served!

AD DESIGN & MATERIALS: We will design your ad for $25 or you may have your designer email us an ad with the following specifications:
- We will accept .gif files only (animated .gifs are fine). We are not at this time accepting Flash files.
- File size should be under 20K
- Ad dimensions are 150 pixels wide by 90 pixels tall If we design your ad, we will need a horizontal photo, your logo, a phone number & headline (10 words or less).
Please send this all to us in one email--it takes forever to pull off photos from web sites & wait for logos from here & there--please help us by getting it all together at one time.
